The facts of life

As a child I used to wonder about the story that babies originate under cabbage leaves since I had only seen the purple spheres in the grocery store, and they don't offer much concealment. It wasn't that anyone tried to pass the explanation off on me; it just bothered me that the myth didn't have the sort of internal logic you expect a myth to have.

Now our garden if full of enormous cabbages, and I know...

Which does not the explain the miraculous the arrival of new cousin on the Lasko side, Paige Lisette, who weighed a whopping four lbs. There was reason to fear she'd be far smaller, so we are absolutely thrilled she's so big and healthy and HOME. I'm probably spelling her name wrong, but I'll update it when we get a picture. Congratulations, Diane, Scott, Austin and Cole.

Another myth: People warned us not to hold Sparky on our laps when he was a puppy since he would grow to be too large, and sure enough, he still thinks he is a lap-dog. .

Good News!

We just got back from Jacob's check up and he has improved far more than anyone expected. They showed me his recent MRI side by side with the one in November and the difference was obvious even to my untrained eye! Where there was a white spot the size of a nickle in the middle in November, there are only traces now. (Note: the spot was radiation damage, not cancer, anyway.)

He's doing much better in terms of vision, strength and coordination as well. We knew that of course, considering he's been jumping his bike, but it was really good to hear.

The doctors see no problem with Jacob going on the school trip to Japan, and think that Ellie would be an excellent companion.

The Red Nose

Its been a tough week or so. Jacob had an MRI 10 days ago and we don't get the results until next monday. We've all had colds, and Jacob's really run-down and dragged out.

So it's good to remember we do have fun once in a while...

And to celebrate how far we've come from the bad old steroid days last fall:
