Looks like bad news

Two suspicious spots showed up on Jacob's MRI from yesterday, one either side of the thalamus. One is between 7 and 8 mm and the other about 3 mm. There are some farfetched explanations for them other than metastasis, and when you think about it, Jacob's tumor was pretty farfetched to begin with, but the heavy odds are that these are tumors.

He had another lumbar puncture today, so by tomorrow we should have CSF tumor marker numbers. Though no-one will be around to interpret them, we have a fairly good idea what they mean.

Jacob is pissed off. His first response is that he doesn't want any more treatment, it just seems pointless, because it doesn't work. I don't know if that's his last answer or just the initial pissed off-ness. The closest he came to acting out was unbuckling his seat belt on the drive over hwy 92. Interestingly, the first thing that he felt ripped off about was the havoc the treatment has wrought to his social life. Then as an after thought he said, "and [the treatment itself] is not so pleasant, either."

I'll let you know when I know. Meanwhile, please call, email, contact us - don't feel like we "have too much going on." The fact is that we don't have much of anything going on except worrying, and its good to interrupt that.
