Lumbar Puncture tuesday

Jacob had a lumbar puncture tuesday: a routine check up, and the first lab draw of the new year. Nothing too out of the ordinary surfaced. One of the tumor markers, beta-HCG, was up a fraction, from <1 to 1, but the AFP was rock bottom low.

He's scheduled to get his central line out Feb 3rd (hooray!) so we'll be drawing labs a bit more often until then to make sure everything is really a go. It feels like a huge, and slightly scary, step.

Aside from that (and I'll draw the labs at home and drive them in after I drop him off) and a routine endocrinology check up on friday, Jacob's going to be blissfully clinic-free for the next two months!

Alex's Christmas present to me was to build the bike shed in the back yard that I've wanted for a long time. This weekend it really started to take shape. Of course, being a Harvill-guy, he's building it to withstand a catagory 5 hurricane.

Young helped a lot!

And so did Jacob.

Please pray, send good thoughts and energy for our little friend from Ronald McDonald House, Nicholas and his family who are facing a very hard time. They are such a beautiful family, they just glow in the pictures on their website, and Nicholas is a very special boy, full of love, with an empathy totally unexpected in a five year old.
