It's a Mystery
We're home. One more dose of IV antibiotics in the day hospital tomorrow and (hopefully) we'll shut the book on this little episode.
Jacob was actually discharged from the hospital around noon yesterday, but since he had an MRI scheduled in the evening, we hung around and went to see X-Men III. I liked it, no matter what anyone says. And Jacob made it through the MRI was no re-takes, meaning he held still for about 45 minutes, a significant feat.
Initial results on the MRI look good - more radiation-induced enhancements, but not, apparently, tumor.
Exactly what happened is a mystery. The pneumonia didn't look bad enough to cause such severe septic shock, especially when nothing grew out on the cultures.
Anyway, he's on his feet and cleared for surf camp week after next, and the rest of the summer's activities, though he's still pretty tired.
At least we got an extra visit with Ellie. She flew out as soon as she heard Jacob was sick. Young just took her to the airport to go back to Philly. It was so good to have her and Alex here.
We had visits from Christine Falsetti and Letty that meant a lot to us. And we said a last farewell at our clinic appointment today to Jacob's doctor, Dennis Kuo, who's moving up and on: a newly married man and newly minted attending/prof at Columbia. Thank you Dennis, for everything.
