From Alex and Jessica in Lisbon
Alex and Jessica left for Portugal after their movie, Ratatouille, wrapped. Here's the first report:
"We're writing to you from lisbon, moments after escaping the Azores. While normally quite nice this time of year, we happened to arrive for the worst summer storm in 100 years. Three days of rain, wind, fog and a high of 50 deg. ensued. Jessica's dad got sick, and right when he needed rest and recuperation the most, our moldy apartment turned out to be above an all night karaoke fest.
Out of the three of us, three bags were lost on various flights. Jessica's was lost and found then, every bag on an entire flight was forgotten. For good measure, Alex's bag was also left on the tarmac once. In the end it was revealed that the airplanes couldn't handle the weight of so many passengers, so bags were left behind to compensate.
We made the best of it. Played many a hand of cards and tromped all over three islands. We saw lava tubes and the most foul smelling sulphur hot springs in the world. In between the rain and wind, the best rainbows would shine down on us for a few minutes at a time.
We have been subsisting on a diet of pastry, with bread and soup for dinner. Perhaps we're on the antiatkin's diet. The last island brought with it good fortunes. We stormed a castle and stumbled upon a bull fight in the streets. Hundreds of macho islanders, drunk and itching for a fight, ran out and taunted each bull brought out. As long as we stayed, none was injured. Lisbon is a warm city and a welcome change. Chilling here for a few days before moving on to porto.
Love jessica and alex"
